A Message To Rescues
I have had the pleasure to be acquainted with many shelters and rescue groups
throughout the years. They ranged from large facilities with many employees and
volunteers to a single person finding homes for as many animals as they can. Some
very organized and some not, some have long application forms with home checks,
some don’t. Despite the differences, they are joined in the cause to save animals.
This is no small task. Saving animals is hard, sometimes dangerous, physically
demanding and emotionally overwhelming work. It takes a very special type of person
to do this work and all who try should be commended.
One would think that being joined in such a noble cause, all agencies would appreciate
each other. Unfortunately this is not the case. Rescue groups and shelters (especially
in NEPA) don’t seem to get along. They can be territorial, political, fraught with over-
blown egos and down right nasty to each other.
This is wrong on sooo many levels. Saving a life is saving a life whether that life
originated in Houston, Fairbanks, or Scranton. If one group is having trouble, another
should lend a hand. It is really not the organization that is being helped, it’s the
animals that are being helped. Isn’t that the root?
How can we ever hope to have peace between countries if something as basic as our
rescue groups can’t get along?
I am sending out a plea to all rescue groups from the animals.
Please keep your focus on us, work together and support each other. We don’t care
who helps us as long as somebody does. We know with our basic instinct that a pack
can accomplish much more than a loner. We tell you that a human team can
accomplish much more that a single unit. Give some of the love you have for us to
each other. We will gladly share. It’s for the greater good.
